The Weekend Started with a Party Boat
Let’s talk about Karena and Ken’s Hacienda Antigua wedding, which took place near Lo de Marcos. It was one of those weddings where everything just clicked, good people, good vibes, and a seriously cool location.
When they first reached out, they mentioned they were planning a party boat the day before the wedding, and I was immediately into it. What better way to kick off a wedding weekend than with drinks, dancing, and ocean jumps?
The boat party absolutely delivered. Everyone showed up in their swimsuits, ready to chill and party. There was dancing, people jumping off the boat, and yes, plenty of tequila flowing. But since this was a January wedding (aka jellyfish season), the first stop was a no-go. The captain spotted tons of jellyfish, so we changed course, and thank goodness we did. The new location was crystal clear and perfect for a full-on aqua party.
And here’s the best part: on the way back, after some killer ceviche and fajitas, the boat crew surprised us with a mini “ceremony” for the couple. It was hilarious, sweet, and so memorable. Everyone was dancing nonstop until we hit the shore.
The Wedding Day at Hacienda Antigua
The next day, the real magic happened at Hacienda Antigua. As soon as I arrived, the planner Vida Bonita Events was already setting everything up and making sure the vibe was on point. If you’ve never been there, Hacienda Antigua is a total gem, it looks like something out of Tuscany with its stone walls, vintage decor, and warm colors.
The bride, Karena, was getting ready in the main suite with her girls, and when she put on her dress… wow. She looked absolutely stunning. Total goddess vibes. Meanwhile, Ken got ready with his son, super chill, super quick, and honestly, very sweet.
They decided not to do a first look and instead saved that moment for the altar. But Karena did do a first look with her dad, and it was emotional in the best way. She couldn’t hold back her tears, and neither could we.
A Ceremony Full of Laughs and Love
As guests took their seats, Ken made his entrance, walking solo and looking calm, cool, and ready. The ceremony was held in a lush garden from the hacienda, which gave everything this classic yet relaxed feel.
They exchanged personal vows that had everyone tearing up one second and laughing the next. It was the perfect mix of heartfelt and fun, just like the couple.
Sunset Photos & Dance Floor Madness
Right after the ceremony, we snuck out for some Hacienda Antigua wedding portraits during golden hour. First, we used the hacienda’s architecture as a backdrop, those textured stone walls and Tuscan-style accents are a dream to shoot. Then we headed out to the terrace with the most insane view. Seriously, every angle looked like a postcard.
When we got back, guests were already seated for dinner, drinks were flowing, and the party kicked off fast. The dance floor was pure fire. Everyone was out there showing off their best moves, and the DJ kept the energy high all night.
And of course, to top it all off, the night ended with a pool jump. Because why not?
Why This Hacienda Antigua Wedding Stuck With Me
Even though this wedding happened a few years ago, it’s still one I think about often. The mix of fun, authenticity, and real moments made it unforgettable. No forced poses, no fake smiles, just two amazing people having the best time with their crew.
If you’re planning a Hacienda Antigua wedding, I’d 100% recommend leaning into that relaxed vibe. Whether you’re doing a boat party, a pool jump, or just a heartfelt ceremony, make it yours. And if you’re lucky enough to be surrounded by people like Karena and Ken were, you’re guaranteed to have the time of your life.
As a Puerto Vallarta wedding photographer, I can say that this venue is one of a kind, with its amazing style and decoration it’s one of my favorite spots.
How to Get to Hacienda Antigua
If you’re thinking about planning your own Hacienda Antigua wedding, here’s a quick note on getting there. The venue is located near Lo de Marcos, in a small town called Úrsula Galván. It’s about an hour drive north of Puerto Vallarta, and the road is super easy to navigate. You can rent a car or arrange private transportation through your planner or hotel.
Most couples (and guests) fly into the Puerto Vallarta International Airport and either stay in Sayulita, San Pancho, or nearby towns before heading up for the big day. Whether you’re going for a chill vibe or a full-on party weekend, having a Hacienda Antigua wedding gives you the perfect mix of tropical and timeless.
