Villa la Joya wedding

A Joyful Celebration at Villa la Joya, Cancun

Some weddings just have a soul, and Anna & Konstantin’s Villa la Joya wedding was one of those. From the emotional ceremony to the vibrant mariachi music, everything came together in a celebration that was both deeply personal and effortlessly stylish.

As a destination wedding photographer, it’s always special to reconnect with couples and families I’ve worked with before. A few years ago, I photographed Konstantin’s sister’s wedding in Cancun, so showing up to this celebration felt like seeing old friends. That familiarity and trust always makes my work even more meaningful.

About the Venue – Villa la Joya Wedding Perfection

Let’s talk about the venue first, because wow, Villa la Joya is truly something else. It’s a luxury private residence right on the beach, located just outside Playa del Carmen in the Riviera Maya. The architecture is stunning, with beautiful columns, grand arches, and European-inspired details that blend perfectly with the tropical setting. The lush gardens and pool area make the whole space feel intimate yet elegant, perfect for a wedding.

A Wedding Day That Began with “I Do”

Unlike most traditional timelines, this Villa la Joya wedding started right at the ceremony! Anna and Konstantin got ready elsewhere and arrived already dressed for the big moment. There was no “first look” or prep portraits, just straight into the emotions, and honestly? It worked beautifully.

Anna arrived first, and soon after, guests began to gather. The anticipation was high, and you could feel the love in the air.

One of the most touching parts of the ceremony was when both mothers spoke, Anna’s mom in Spanish and Konstantin’s mom in Russian. It was such a beautiful way to honor their families’ cultures and added so much intimacy to the moment. You could tell these two were meant to be together—they couldn’t stop smiling (or looking at each other).

Cocktail Hour on the Terrace, with Mariachi Magic

Right after the ceremony, guests were invited to the villa’s terrace for cocktail hour. The setting overlooked the ocean, with the golden Riviera Maya sun beginning to set. It was picture perfect, delicious canapés, creative cocktails, and a live mariachi band adding that unmistakable Mexican vibe.

While the guests enjoyed the party, I stole Anna & Konstantin away for some sunset portraits (my absolute favorite time of day to shoot!). They looked like models, and the chemistry between them was pure fire.

Dinner with a View, and Matryoshkas with Meaning

Dinner was set up on the far side of the pool, with round tables overlooking the Caribbean. Such a perfect setup for this Villa la Joya wedding.

In a super sweet and personal touch, the couple walked from table to table handing out little Matryoshkas, traditional Russian nesting dolls, as wedding favors. It was a beautiful nod to Konstantin’s heritage and made each guest feel part of something special (yes, I got one too!).

Heartfelt speeches followed, and between the laughter and the clinking glasses, you could feel the joy radiating off everyone there.

When the Party Starts After the Dancing

Now let’s talk party, because this crew brought the energy. There was dancing, tequila, more dancing, maybe some barefoot moves, and all the love and joy you’d expect from a villa la Joya wedding in the Riviera Maya.

What made it extra fun was the timing of the first dance. Instead of doing it at the start of the reception, Anna & Konstantin waited until later in the night, when the party was already in full swing. Suddenly, their song started playing and they just flowed into it, surrounded by their guests on the dance floor. It felt spontaneous, romantic, and totally them.

Final Thoughts on This Villa la Joya Wedding

This Villa la Joya wedding was more than just a celebration, it was a fusion of cultures, a gathering of old and new friends, and a reminder of why I love what I do.
